A class on class : Crossing the line

Today's Tip • A class on class : Crossing the line

There will be times when a customer, fan, or even a fellow employee ends up not figuring out certain social cues. “No” is always “No”. What is crossing the line? Being inappropriate to their personal space is one very certain clue a person has crossed the line. Let's suppose someone asks for a phone number and the response is NO. Then, they show up to a public place, because that person checked around knowing they would be there... Way over the line. There is no space for error, a person crossing the line is a very big problem. Protect yourself.

Let others know that it happened. Also, introduce people to that person who has crossed the line. You could even say things when introducing your friend to this individual, such as; “Oh, this is that person I was telling you about. This is my good friend.” The more people who know about the person being inappropriate, and the more people whom the inappropriate person knows knows, now knows them now, they will surely back off. Please, after the first true warning to these people of being inappropriate happens; go to the police and fill out a report. Protect yourself.

Now, seeing others cross the line with you is one thing. Crossing the line yourself is another. Remember, networking starts with you. Being kind, and aware of social cues can help further your career in any field. Understand your limits. Your awkwardness can cause a rift between new individuals. Fairly stated, if you are trying to cause said rift, than by all means act inappropriate. However, you never know who someone is or knows. On the other hand, how you act to everyone can change the opinion of people involved. As the old saying goes “You can't please all the people...”

A class on class : Working is working

Today's Tip • A class on class : Working is working

There are two sides to every situation; The person doing, and the person having it done to them. When you are at work there is a fine line between being professional and being personal. Of course you want to be a little personal. Getting to know individuals is all part of the networking experience. How personal should you get? Laughing, being friendly, and showing your kindness is a good level of measurement. Flirting, talking about your troubles, or even what is going on at home are all things left inside. You are working, and work is for work, home is for home.

However, you have moments when a person is being professional and another person or persons are being inappropriate. It happens to women a lot more than to men, but it still happens. When a lady is working, say on a movie set, trying to get her foot in the business; she may hand out her business card to people and be friendly. If the guy makes a move on her, or only takes the card to flirt later on, that is unprofessional. There is always a time and a place. This is apart of TAC: The Art of Conversation – When to say it “Never at a business”.

Keep a steady hand when working. Know there will be moments where others are unprofessional. Keep your professionalism up to par. Allow these people to recognize they have stepped over the line without being rude back to them. One thing you could do is say thanks, and be nice, then excuse yourself. Stay away from that person. They'll get the hint. If they call or email you inappropriate messages, respond without acknowledging their inappropriate comments. Simply find things they mentioned that were normal and respond to that.

I want to be successful : Why are they and I am not!?

Today's Tip • I want to be successful : Why are they and I am not!?

Negativity becomes negativity. Many times there are moments when people look at others, and their success, only to complain that those people/companies shouldn't be successful. That, or possibly, the onlooker of complaints feels they should be the successful ones. Famous words of the common person “Why are they on stage, we should be up there?”, “How did they get on the radio?”, “Why are they in this movie?”, “I am more talented than them!”

Instead of worrying why you are in a different place than these “undeserving” individuals; why not look into how they got their opportunities? That's right, there were certain things they accomplished in a particular order that granted them possibility! A great achiever recognizes greatness achieved by others so to achieve such things themselves. Knowledge truly is power. Let your hand search, and understand, multiple paths of truth through the achieved.

This comes down to working with others, or even befriending others. There is no harm in finding a person willing to show you the ropes. People in college do it all the time; they become interns, working for free to gain a knowledge strong enough to help them feel out their desired field. There are many who need hands on work to figure it out. Standing at the sidelines complaining will only get you so far. Jump into the ditch and start getting dirty!

I want to be successful : Think responsibly

Today's Tip • I want to be successful : Think responsibly

Want a family; Child, House, Car, Marriage? These are all beautiful and wonderful things to have in one's life. Are you ready for it though? Success comes at a price, and sometimes at the price of those we may love most over ourselves. A family life-style is a job in itself. It takes all ones time, and continues to do so until a retired date. Think responsibly, success is a selfish thing when needing to make sacrifices.

If you are in a situation where you can hardly cover your own personal overhead, how can you take on a family? A child needs a certain amount of care taking, food, time, and love. Wanting a child is great, awaiting the right time can take forever. Workout a plan. S.M.AR.T. Goals help organize possibilities. When individuals create situations that hinder them, it is their own fault. Think wisely, understand what you want, and can you handle it.

By allowing yourself to live within the Triangle of Life, you'll find your needs of success take everyday to accomplish. Your needs of purpose help build a security to protect your growth as you increase your chances for fulfilling your dream. While organized your needs of longevity you propel your life into a direction to jump off a foundation created through treating your life like a business and investing into assets!

Today's Tip • I want to be successful : I have a job

Today's Tip • I want to be successful : I have a job

Working harder for a company than your own company has never made sense to those seeking success. There are people out there that have dreams of doing something more than working a job for someone else. They'll work as a store clerk packing out shelves only to find themselves bored and without purpose. What makes this person go to work everyday, instead of going to work for themselves everyday? Fear... Money... Security?

Happiness comes from doing what you love. Living a life where a person feels purposeful, accomplished. Even a regular 9 to 5 job for someone else is more amazing when, at the end of the day, you feel like you have accomplished something grander than your task. How does one break free of the job fear? Organize a budget to take control of your life. That is step one. Step two, take a chance. Make things happen by making things happen.

Every thing starts out small. Take one step to accomplish said goals each day. With a steady job working for another company you give them your 8 hours and go home. You get paid weekly, and can only advance as far as that company allows. Own your life and you can advance as far as your imagination will take you. Work when you want to work. In the beginning, you work longer, harder hours. Once you get things rolling, your company works for you!

I want to be successful : Where's the audience

Today's Tip • I want to be successful : Where's the audience

Playing to an audience must be an amazing feeling. Hearing them scream cheers of joy, chants of praise. Having people there just to be apart of a grand ole show is every performers dream. It's even the dream for companies. Companies want an audience of people involved in their productions. So where is this audience? How does a person get people to notice them?

In general it starts with brand awareness. Simple rule; Get a brand then market that brand. Having a brand for people to latch onto starts with a connection within a company's purpose. Where does a company want to be in any given market? How do they want to be remember, or perceived? These questions help build a brand. Then market that brand through every avenue available.

Where is the audience? Waiting to know a brand is out there. They will come when they are interested. Build a nice relationship with them through conversation of brand vs opinion. Keeping away from telling people what you want them to see and what they should like vs letting them in on the conversation will always help you gain their interest. Think GEICO and how they communicate with their ever growing audience.

I want to be successful : I am talented

Today's Tip • I want to be successful : I am talented

Practicing is one of “3 Needs of Success”. A person must be skilled in their area of expertise. However, Practicing is more about learning the business of everything; working hard to master Networking and Marketing. How much practice is too much practice? Also, a person needs to be a master of their skill to ever make it to a successful position. I've heard this before “I am talented!” The harsh truth is, so are about a million other people.

Why try and be good at something if it does not matter for one's success? Working on a skill is important so that when a person makes it to their respectable place of success they can complete said tasks. There is an old saying in the business of life; Talent will only get you so far. This is by-far the truest statement in life. One must be known (marketing) and very much liked (networking) in life for their future to have any level of success.

Being humble, letting people know about you, and staying confident that you have the ability to take chances. Listen to people who may be greater or lesser in your skill. Every person has something to offer advice towards. Even if it makes you think about something “not” to do. Lose that mentality of “I am talented; so I deserve more, or should be noticed” and work hard for that success. It'll pay off more in the end.

The Art of Conversation : Making it all work

Today's Tip • TAC : The Art of Conversation : Making it all work

Talking with a person leads to a nice open conversation. Let an intended target of TAC be “in control” through their questions. In reality, when using “Jury Talk” a person is in complete control without taking away the illusion of control from the intended target. With this, continue “Listening” so a proper response can come out. All together, this works to a very strong advantage for conversationalists.

By listening to respond, correctly, helps guide jury talk into a purposeful direction. Keeping answers short, it leads to more questions on the target's side. When talking with a person it keeps that conversation to an open standard. No pressure on either side. Jury Talk secret is leading the conversation through giving answers based on where you want to lead it. Since you are answering the questions, it only brings your target to give a follow up question.

So with How to say it, when to say it and why to say it controlling an outcome of any conversation rely on rule number 3 “Why To Say It”. This is all about direction. Know what you want from a conversation with another person. Having more of a direction going in gives a better foundation for when you come out of that conversation. This is all about Networking. Networking is 1 Need of the 3 Needs of Success.

TAC : The Art of Conversation : Listen and respond / Upping

Today's Tip • TAC : The Art of Conversation : Listen and respond / Upping

Waiting for a person to finish speaking, only to add to the conversation is considered Upping. They talk about a dog, then the person responding talks about their dog. It is a rude way to add to a conversation. Taking away a person's power of control leads to devaluing. It is a tough habit to beat, since most of the time we're simply trying to relate to that individual to show we understand what's going on in their mind.

A great first step is; listen to what is being said. Adding to a conversation is more about bringing out and showing interest in what was just heard. Respond to people with genuine interest to hear more about said subject. The conversation is about the other person's needs. When they are finished speaking, acknowledge that subject matter with inquisitive responses. Less a question, but more a thought of delving deeper into that conversation.

Listening a responding starts and ends with the other person. Best advice is usually a person's own experience. When you are talking with another person and they ignore your emotional attachment to what you just said by making it about them; that is upping without listening properly. If you don't like how it feels, imagine what they are feeling when it is done to them.
