Being open and trying new things; Guest Blogger: Brenden Coleman (Actor / Writer)

Today's Tip – Being open and trying new things; Guest Blogger: Brenden Coleman (Actor / Writer)

Being Open and Trying New Things

It's hard for some people to leave their comfort zone of what they know and venture into new areas. I love trying new things, meeting new people, and going places I've never been before. When you keep yourself open to new ideas, you gain the ability to see things differently. If you visit another country or culture, you see how other people live differently than you do. When you meet new people, you can possibly make new friends or at least find people who have similar interests as you, and can also increase your network of people who can help you in various ways.

Try out a new food that you have never had before. You might find your new favorite thing to eat. See a movie you thought looked interesting, it might be the most interesting movie you’ve ever seen. Talk to someone who seems nice. They might end up being your new best friend, or possibly even a future spouse. Don’t be afraid to push your comfort zone out a little bit more and try experimenting with something. Try putting mustard on your hot dog even though you “hate” it. Talk to that person next to you at Starbucks who looks like they’re reading something really cool.

I’m not telling people to go out and steal cars just because they’ve never done it before, or to start getting into drugs or anything dangerous, but if you limit yourself to a life where you are constantly keeping yourself from seeing or trying new things, then how are you going to gain experience in the world? More than that, you are depriving yourself of opportunities and experiences that could help you become more successful in life.
